What to do when you know you were born to do something different

Hi, I’m Wynand

What to do when you know you were born to do something different.

Big question.

Still, it remains one of the most frustrating questions or revelations you would ever face. Since the easy answer is to go for it.

The reality is different.

My reality is not yours and vice versa.

I am not in a position to just go for it.

No, it is not only fear that keeps me back.

It is…my reality.

I need to provide. I need to pay the bills. I need to keep the income flowing. And in tough financial times, taking a knock in income, even temporarily is not always possible.

Yet, it does not feed the frustration hunger.

In fact, it makes it almost unbearable. And not only because you know it deep in your core. It cuts deeper when you see other people succeeding in the thing you know you were meant to do or become.

I have no idea if this makes sense.

I hope it does.

But seeing other people living the life you were born to live is tough.

It is soul-crushing.

So in the above monologue, I still did not answer the question. You are excused if you forgot it by now. Here it is again…

What to do when you know you were born to do something different.

Of course, the simple answer we already covered. Just Nike it. Just do it. If your reality allows you to make the move or if you are just that brave.

For the rest, we have only a few options:

  • Forget it. No, I am not trying to be a dream crusher, but sometimes avoiding an impossibility causes far less pain than living through your reality. You will start resenting those around you, blaming other people for your inability to cross the bridge.
  • Make a plan to get there. Just make a plan and work it. Every spare moment you have.
  • Do it, on the side. If the dream allows it, then try and do it part-time. See where it leads to. Take notes. Make more plans. It is your life after all.
  • Do something similar within the industry. Allow me to explain. Suppose you are not talented enough (normally a physical talent) to play a sport or do an art at a commercial or professional level. In that case, you need to take a deep breath, accept it, and move towards something rewarding within that industry. For example, if you can’t play cricket professionally, why not get involved in coaching or the business side of things. I know it is a substitute dream, but at least you “live” within your passion.

I have no idea if any of my answers make sense to you.

Or even if it covered the topic.

If not, I appologize it is on me.

I try to remind myself not to get caught up in too many “what if’s” or “Should have been.”

Life is hard enough.

Trust me.

Focus on the things you can control in life. And if you can control a dream, purpose or the “What to do when you know you were born to do something different” then do it.

Control the living crap out of it.

Go for it.

Live it.

If not, find another route or purpose.

Life is too short to waste time.
